five years starting in early 1997, from a base in Shanghai, I managed the sales and business development effort for W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (the Gore-Tex® products company), specifically their environmental filtration products group. Our offices stretched from China along the Pacific rim all the way over to India. During my tenure, I split my time mostly between lobbying US colleagues to support our Far East team and working closely with our Chinese and other Asian field sales engineers to define strategy and grow sales. Dealing with all aspects of the business, I developed a very clear first-hand understanding of the difficulties encountered by US companies doing business in China and Asia. I began thinking "there has to be a better way for US companies to reduce the extended costly learning curve and avoid major pitfalls abroad, there has to be a way companies can accelerate and make more productive the sales and business development process". Those thoughts along with my passion for doing business in China stayed with me well after my return to the states.

Driven to solve the problems associated with starting to do business in China, I founded China Sage Consultants, Inc. from my home state of California in early 2003. From the very beginning my collaborators and I began developing our China Sales Incubator business model intent on helping US companies enter and sell more effectively in China. We ran a few projects from California while China continued pulling me back. I returned to China with my family in the summer of 2004 and setup our Shanghai-based “China WFOE” China Sage Consultants (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Returning to China was necessary to ensure an effective execution capability in China for our clients.

That's how it began. Our core focus of helping US SME’s sell and buildup their businesses in China continues to this day. Following is a bulleted summary of what we do:
